Programs for young learners:
- Head Start is a federal program to promote the school readiness of young children from low-income families. Merkel Elementary's Head Start programs support the development of children from age 3 to age 5. Head Start services include early learning, health, and family well-being. Head Start personnel work with children in the classroom, make home visits, and assist parents with issues relating to their child's development.
- Locally funded Early Childhood and Pre-Kindergarten programs are also available at Merkel Elementary. These programs also are based on income or special needs. Children as young as 3 years old may qualify.
These programs have limited enrollment and registration times. Please contact the MES Office to see if your child qualifies.
